Theme is If you do, for example make artwork, or indeed form a radical sculpture trail as part of a wider curatorial programme in Edinburgh, you’re actually conforming to what the culture industry expects and requires of you whilst all the time you are thinking you’re doing whatever you want as part of an original curatorial concept - but you’re not. You’re doing the opposite of what you would actually decide for yourself. If you do things that are ‘contemporary art’ for inclusion in a wider economy, you are by default precluding the possibility of a genuine community or local ‘practice’ evolving because you are destroying any hope of it emerging by doing it as though it was the local identity and then doing it and selling it.
